Hospital Hygiene

Since 2003 infection prevention and control has been the main area in improving the quality of the hospital care. The importance of hand hygiene has been emphasized to ELCT hospitals. The developing countries have many challenges in fighting against health-care associated infections. Even communities do not have a public waste care and hospital waste management needs special attention. The right use of right antiseptics and disinfectants is a basic knowledge but different than in western countries. Cleaning high-risk areas with blood and other body fluids in era of many hepatitis viruses and hiv/aids is more than essential. Still now often done only by water or by soap and water. Also processing instruments must be known and performed meticulously. High-level disinfection is needed for instruments and devices which can't be put to autoclave. High-risk areas are operation theatres, delivery rooms, laboratories, premature rooms but also dental units - often forgotten. Workers in mortuaries also need special protection as well.
